December 3, 2013 - Thursday

18 Resolutions that anyone can keep for the new year:

1. I will no longer eat mushrooms.
2. I will go to a gym (no sense spoiling things by getting TOO specific).
3. I will inhale.
4. I will exhale.
5. I will blink. Often.
6. I will wear clothes in public. Often.
7. I will watch sports on TV. Again, often.
8. I will drink sweet beverages while watching sports on TV.
9. I will eat salty snacks while watching sports on TV.
10. I will still not eat mushrooms.
11. I will walk somewhere at some point.
12. I will not ride my bicycle, if I ever buy one, across the country.
13. I will not take part in our space program in any significant way.
14. I will not be asked, and if asked, will refuse, to be the body double for Ryan Gosling in any of his movies, despite an uncanny resemblance.
15. I will buy a lottery ticket w
hen the payoff hits at least $500 million.
16. I will not win the lottery (this is the one resolution I'd love to break).
17. I will not carry on a public affair with any member of the Nebraska state legislature, Monaco's royal family, or the cast of any version of "90210."
18. I will not come up with more than 18 resolutions for 2013.

7th Grade:  Discussion on the difference between Adjectives vs. Pronouns, Gerunds vs. Participles, and subordinate vs. Independent clauses.

Homework:  Adjective Clauses worksheet.  See Mr. Hawley for copies.

8th Grade:  Same as 7th Grade for the first part of class.  Same worksheet.  See Mr. Hawley for copies.
2nd part of class:  We are still discussing Author's writing styles.  I began reading a series of three essays.  One by Dave Barry, one by Garrison Keilor, and one by Annie Dillard.  All three have a humorous take on life, but their styles of writing are radically different.  Students will listen to all three essays and then choose which author belongs with which essay based on style.  Later students will be read a 4th anonymous essay and have to choose the appropriate author based on impirical evidence.

10th Grade:  We also discussed Adjective clauses (Can you tell what I feel like the classes need right now?)
Homework:  Adjective or Pronoun worksheet - See Mr. Hawley for copies.

We only spent 3 minutes on the homework, then began doing more Greek Presentations.  We probably have 2-3 days of presentations left, then we will watch the movie "Clash of the Titans" as a culminating activity for our Greek Unit.  Commercials are the next big project we will be working on.
